1997 Michigan Genealogy Trip The first photo taken about 1925 is my father Albert Jay Slocum and his 2nd wife Elma Dankmyer of Pittsburgh, PA. Albert loved music and had apparently sought employment with the Pittsburgh Philharmonic Orchestra and in doing so, met Elma. After marriage, they moved to New Orleans with Albert having part time employment with the orchestra and part time employment working at a restaurant. Elma died in New Orleans in 1932 with a brain tumor. The 2nd photo is Debbie and Norma Jean Slocum Muller at the grave site of Jean's mother Elma Dankmyer Slocum. The other grave stone is Elma's brother. The house is a duplex where Norma Jean grew up as a child after her mother passed away - it is located in Aspenwall, PA - a suburb just across the river from Pittsburgh. The photo of a 5 year old girl is one of Norma Jean Slocum while in New Orleans. The last pic is Melvin and Norma Jean at their house in Pittsburgh 1997. |
