Ocho Rios, Jamaica

The Port bay and city of Ocho Rios, Jamaica Dec 2007 from the
cruise ship Carnival Liberty
Below: Dunn River Falls Tour - a ten minute ride from Ocho
Rios, Jamacia to the government owned falls that drops some 600 feet plus into
the bay ( 1st pic ) A guide leads 12-15 folks up the falls while chanting
Jamacian words to get the crowd involved. A photo session was taking place
as folks held hands trying to make it to the top - it is an hour trip and lots
of fun. Cost is about $26 per person which includes transportation, a guide and
the falls area. If you go on the ship excursion it costs about $45 per
person.

Fern Valley Tour: From Ocho Rios we drove about 10 miles
up a winding washed out road to the mountain top observing ferns and roadside
vendors along the way. A couple with us wanted to try the local beer
"Red Strip" so he got a bottle from a local guy for $2. Rich
live on the mountain top and the view is excellent. We even noticed a Baptist
church on our return trip back to Ocho Rios.

City of Ocho Rios, Jamaica tour with shops, salesperson and
our tour guide. While we were on the city tour we had about an hour to
shop ( 2nd photo ) so we ventured around the corner to a record store and had
the girl working sales help us pick out a popular current Jamacian music CD that
was not rap or hip hop. If you have download capabilities, here are a few
of our favorites: Tarrus Riley singing "She's Royal", Tami Chynn
singing "Over and over again", Richie Stephens singing "Come to
Jamacia", Duane Stephenson singing "Cottage in Negril", and last
Alaine singing "Sincerely." It is a government oppressed country
but the people are really friendly and nice with a laid back life style -
however drinking, smoking pot, and hard drugs are easily obtained. Folks
were trying to hand us drugs through the fence at Dunn River Falls and security
didn't try to stop them. Next time we want to visit the other side of the
island to see Negril and Montego Bay, Jamacia
